trending clothes

Lygia Clark's work is highlighted in an exhibition at Guggenheim Bilbao. Clark, a prominent abstract artist, treated painting as an experimentation field. She lived from 1948 to 1958. We'll be looking at some of her greatest works. Here are some highlights. These highlights should inspire you to explore the amazing art of this artist.

Relational Objects

Relational objects were a set of sculptural objects designed to heighten somatic experience through physical interaction. The objects were made with basic materials and simple skills. They became part of the aesthetics associated with precarity, a trend in art that is often associated with low-skilled workers. These works were often considered domestic technology because they were created with the help of a group.

Cannibalistic Slobber

Lygia Cannonastic Slobber is a piece crafted with saliva, thread and glue by Lygia. It's a frightening, but fun experience that examines the relationship between the unconscious and the body. Participant is accepted as part of the web that encompasses them. This kind of performance was created to open the MoMA. It has since lost importance.

Stone and Air

Lygia’s "Stone and Air" project is a sensory object that participants can shape. The process is akin to childbirth. Each participant's somatic experience will become the central character. To protect her wrist, an elastic band was provided to the artist. However, she broke it in an episode. It appears that the act of saving one's breath has healing powers, since the work replicates the movement in life. The stone is filled up with air and moves with the participant's breath.

Pedro e ar

Lygia C Clark started to investigate the relationship between objecthood & surface during the Neo Concrete period. Superficies Moduladas, a series she began painting in the 1950s, shows a shift away from her original understanding of the figure/background relation. Ferreira Gullar's ideas influenced her, but she questioned them later. She would later explore the relationship of the objecthood to the surface.

New Objectivity

Lygia was born in Belo Horizonte in Minas Gerais in Brazil in 1920. Clark received an informal art education in Rio de Janeiro during her childhood. Clark was able to study with Arpad Scenes and Fernand Lger after completing a Parisian art course. She had her first solo display at the Institut Endoplastique, in 1954. Her art is a unique mixture of the sensual, the aesthetic, and incorporates elements such as sound or movement into her works.

New Objectivity I

The New Objectivity movement is one of the most important conceptual movements in art. Clark has been working to realize this idea for over forty years. Her work challenges traditional expectations and perceptions. Clark spent some time in Paris as a young woman in the 1970s. She studied under Pierre Fedida (a famous psychiatrist). Her research process coincided closely with important events around the globe, including the May 1968 events. Clark was critical of art institutions, and began to consider her work abandoning traditional art-making techniques. Clark went through psychoanalysis with Pierre Fedida in the mid-70s. However, she ended the therapy later.
